Yes. Vets match. 50 minutes of rugby in the second row almost killed me. Playing again in a couple of weeks!
Went to the rugby Friday evening. It was a friend’s birthday so we went along to Worcester vs Sale. Not the greatest of matches to be honest.
Saturday was meeting up with another mate in Birmingham. We caught the Wales vs South Africa match in the pub and then went to the Institute to see Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes. Excellent gig.
Finished my coaching stint as Head Coach of Five Ways. I did enjoy it (on the whole) and I definitely grew my skills and capabilities as a coach. Downside was loads of stress due to selection issues, player egos and an overwhelming sense that I was taking it more seriously than the players were. I’m taking a break and I’ll see whether I go back to it. There are other things I’d like to do with my time so I’ll see how the next 18 months develops.
I did have a great time at the players awards and received a great gift from the club.
It’s been a struggle to keep enjoying the rugby right now. Starting to run out of enthusiasm for all of it – my local club where I coach, televised rugby, women’s rugby. I’ve told my club I’m standing down as head coach and I’ll be taking a complete break from the game.
When I say a complete break, that’s what I mean. The plan is not to step foot on a rugby ground, quit all my twitter feeds and have nothing to do with the game. I’m going to spend from April 2017 to April 2018 just riding my motorbike and my Lambretta, catching back up on my longboarding and following the football. Then after that we’ll see how I feel. May never go back to coaching and rugby, you never know.
It’s been a long old weekend.
1) Drive to in-laws. 1:45 journey ends up being almost 5 hours due to accident and then resurfacing work. Downer.
2) Went into London to see The Bouncing Souls at the Underground in Camden. Upper. No tubes. Downer.
4) Coaching course was really good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Upper.
5) Now sat in garden with beer. Upper.
So, it turns out that my speakers that I bought recently with a new deck and amp are dodgy. There’s a loose connection in their somewhere. However, the guys from Spain’s of Bromsgove came to my house and diagnosed the problem. It wasn’t me thankfully. They have arranged to order replacement speakers and deliver and replace them this week. Excellent service from them.
Weekend was spent watching European rugby at Five Ways Old Edwardians RFC on Saturday and then watching Worcester Ladies rugby lose their 3/4th place play-off match against Lichfield RFC unfortunately. Daughter #2 plays for Worcester.
This week I have to get a job! Got a first stage interview for a permanent programme manager role so I’ve been preparing for that. Then I’ll get my CV out to the contract market after that. Loads of stuff to do!
