We had good numbers on Tuesday. We’ve had some new players in and now we just need to nudge them over the edge into playing. Brand new players find the idea of a game much more worrying than training. So we’ve got a pool match coming up on Saturday and we’ve got some brand new players starting.
Scrum session was Thursday. After having to push the sled the length of two pitches we had a good look at mindset, building a scrum and then body shape. We’ll have to see what that does to the game on Saturday.
After the game it’s back to the club for the RWC final, followed by a bonfire and fireworks. Great stuff.
Me and the missus headed off to the Chateau Impney for a Northern Soul allnighter. Started at 9pm after the rugby.
We played Dixonians and won 34-5. A mixed 1s and 2s team with people out of position. I ran the line and the referee’s coach told me how refreshing it was to see a second team playing with structure. Could have fooled me! I thought we had very little structure, but I’m probably being unfair to my coaching and the team.
Anyway, Northern Soul. A 9pm start and we kept on dancing and drinking until 3am. And that included the clocks going back for an hour. I spent Sunday being knackered and watching my daughter play rugby for Worcester ladies. Early to bed…….
On my way home on Thursday my car broke down. The RAC turned up, got me to turn the engine over and then immediately declared that the timing belt had snapped. That *will* lead to top-end damage so the car is screwed. Not worth repairing due to the age.
So my day off consisted of driving round second-hand garages to find a car. Luckily I did find one and have the cash put aside to buy one. As it doesn’t need an MOT, was serviced only recently I can drive it away today. Back on the road (and more importantly my missus gets her car back) so work next week will be considerably easier.
Posted a couple of Instagram pics already. In support were The Homeless Gospel Choir, Trophy Eyes (not my favourite) and Red City Radio. The Homeless Gospel Choir unplugged his guitar and just came down onto the floor to do his set. Excellent and really up close.
Went off to Berlin to see FC St Pauli play Union Berlin. Made it a long weekend so we could see a bit of Berlin. Sadly that meant a really early start and so we landed in Berlin on the Friday at 10:00am. Check in at hotel where rooms were ready and then off to sight-see. Checkpoint Charlie was just up the road as was the Memorial to the Murdered Jews and the Brandenburg Gate. Finished off the day with the Olympic Stadium and a meal and beers.
Next morning it was off to Stadion An Der Alten Försterei to find the Fanladen rep and pick up tickets. That done, into the ground for a couple of beers. The match was gripping and sadly Union Berlin got the equaliser with the last kick of the match to make the score 3-3. Time to head back into town and find beers and watch Wales get kicked out of the Rugby World Cup by South Africa. Close enough 23-19 score line but chances gone. I’ll be honest, after a few beers there and then catching back up with sister-in-law and husband I kind of lost track of the day. Beer will do that to you.
Final full day was off to Schloss Charlottenburg for a good old look round. We were there long enough for my feet to be killing me so that was enough I think. Mexican meal and early to bed for a 6am wake up. All told, a blinding weekend and bro-in-law keen to head off to Hamburg to do it again.
