Quick day trip visit to Ironbridge a historical area and World Heritage Site.
Site of the world’s first iron bridge.
We then walked up to the Blist Hill Victorian Town, a recreation of a village with the various industries and loving conditions.
They had a large shed showing a vessel called the Spry. She’s a trow, a type of boat used on the river.
High spot for me was the Hay Inclined Plane which was used to take small boats carrying goods up and down from the Severn to the Shropshire Canal. They floated the boats onto submerged carts which then were winched or counter-weighted up rails to and from the river/canal. Victorian engineering at its best.
